Abstract (EN)
Artvin has witnessed many nations and struggles throughout history due to its geographical location. The first written document about Artvin, the settlement of deep-rooted and rich civilizations, is found in Urartian inscriptions. The region, where many tribes such as Cimmerians and Scythians settled, was also invaded by Byzantines, Sassanids, Muslims, Georgians and Armenians. Later, as a result of the arrival and settlement of the Turks in the region, Turkification began to be adopted. After the Seljuk domination, Artvin, which was under Ottoman rule during the campaigns of Selim I to Georgia, was out of the hands of the Ottoman State in the 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War.In the process of rejoining Artvin, which was under Russian occupation for about 40 years, many migrations and wars were experienced. Artvin definitively joined Turkey with the initiatives of the GNAT government, which was trying to create an independent Turkish State.
