Abstract (EN)

Passing on the cultural assets that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites to future generations necessitates making quick and correct intervention decisions with interdisciplinary collaboration, updating the changes in the heritage structure from past to present with practical methods, and sensitively measuring and analyzing the structure. While modern methods developed with technology and preferred in documentation studies create an alternative to conventional documentation methods and accelerate the work, they fail to deliver the expected benefit. Building Information Modeling (BIM), which provides benefits throughout the building life cycle, is an ecosystem that can store the data of the building to be constructed on a single platform, facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, provide continuous data flow, and support automatic revision capacity. Historical Building Information Modeling (HBIM) refers to the integration of Building Information Modeling into the conservation and documentation of cultural assets. Data loss is avoided with HBIM by storing old and current data of cultural properties on a single platform; a detailed model of a cultural property with precise measurements can be produced; and all the BIM ecosystem's potential can be used in the documentation of UNESCO World Heritage structures. In the study, the future's expected documentation method, HBIM, is implemented by combining a virtual model of one of the UNESCO World Heritage's and Anatolia's medieval period wooden pillared and beamed Afyonkarahisar Grand Mosque, and all the other data of the mosque into a single file. This virtual model of the mosque was generated by producing the point cloud data of the mosque with laser scanning, a modern documentation method, and converting the lattice models, which are classified according to design elements by automatic tools, into smart object libraries in BIM software. The study will serve as a guide for conservation experts by broadening the usage of the HBIM method in the documentation of national and international cultural assets.
