Abstract (EN)
Any changes in the spaces are expected to make a difference in the space itself. However, the pace of the rapid changes for the technological dependency level of the developing countries creates spaces which are similar. As a result of this, the harmony between imaginary and real spaces in the minds of the people is lost and the perceptibility is reduced, which causes alienation to the space. Based on these assumptions, within the framework of this thesis, the aim is to determine the spatial features of the activities which either disappear or continue and occur in parallel with the rapid changes and to evaluate the satisfaction level of the past and present users as a result of the changes as well as to provide alternatives to the concept of negative space created for a certain age group. A study model within the framework of the current approach is proposed by making use of such concepts as alienation, socialization, belonging and trust, positive and negative spaces. The implementation part of the study is composed of various stages. In the first stage, historical photographs, maps, written and oral narrations and the interview data are investigated in order to determine the physical and perceptual features to be used in the study. In the second stage, physical and perceptual changes were classified and a typology is provided. In the third stage, all the data obtained in the previous stage were evaluated alltogether. Thanks to there search model that is developed in the end of the study, it was concluded that the change (based on a certainage group) reduced the bond between the humans and the spaces and that the gaps in th espatial continuity produced negative spaces. It was observed that the humans become alienated to the space and to each other accordingly in the case of a failurein providing a physical continuity. It was also observed that this situationals oreduced the sense of belonging and harmony of the individuals.
