Abstract (EN)

The study area is a linear route between Tatvan and Baykan. On this route, the first stop with El Aman inn, which also corresponds to the section line of the Bitlis river at 1800 meters, covers the portion of the Baykan valley floor with a 700-meter rise. The current equivalent of this part, which follows the Bitlis Creek, a branch of the Dicle river, is 75 kilometers. This road, expressed as the south road of Silk Road, follows the valley, exceeds 1000 meters from the valley floor to the peaks of the mountains. The South Silk Road between Tatvan and Baykan has passed from past to present; the earth road, the single lane road, the dual lane path through different stages. Today, double-sided roadworks have wiped off most of the old Silk Road route. But to assess the work data with the conditions of that day, the actual distances between the structures were determined by following the old road tracks. Variables that affect inn and road selection were analyzed geographically. As a result of this study, a localized literature, a topographic evaluation, a historical record were provided for future research. In addition, cultural structures that may be caused by the road and the river route, a dynamic field from past to present, will be recorded. In this context, the research area has been examined using surface analysis with components that are enabled by CBS, such as Slope, visibility, hydrographia, topography, exposure.
