Effect of training on oxidative stress in wheelchair basketball players

Abstract (EN)
Basketball training involves integrating general physical activities and psychological elements into excellent basketball performance. Depending on the type, severity and duration of the training, oxidative stress parameters may also change. In our study; The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of training on oxidative stress in wheeled basketball players. In the findings obtained from our study; The effects of the 12-week training program on the physical and oxidative stress parameters of the participants were compared with the first and last values. To work; Turkey Wheelchair Basketball 1 League teams playing in 9 male athletes participated voluntarily. Before and after 12 weeks of training; Malondialdehyde (MDA), some physical characteristics (hand-paw strength (right-left), resting pulse) and oxidative stress parameters were determined by determining some physical characteristics (age, body weight, height, body mass index (BMI), training age) of athletes. It was investigated whether there was a significant difference between vitamin E and vitamin E values before and after training. SPSS 22.0 software was used for statistical analysis of the data. Paired samples "t" test was used for the dependent groups to determine the differences between pre- and post-training parameters. There was an increase in right hand-claw strength and left hand-claw strength (p <0.05) and a decrease in resting pulse value (p <0.05) of wheelchair basketball team players who performed 12 weeks of regular training. MDA levels were found to be increased in oxidative stress parameters (p <0.05). Vitamin E levels were found to be decreased (p <0.05). There was no significant difference in vitamin A value (p>0.05). As a result; Improvements were observed in some of the health-related physical fitness parameters of the 12-week regular basketball basketball players. We concluded that the presence of endogenous antioxidants in ROS and lipid peroxide, which may increase after exercise, can be minimized naturally and may be completely prevented by a diet rich in antioxidants.
