Investigation of the difference between teaching techniques of functional movement analysis and movement flow analysis of strike techniques in tennis

Teaching different type of tennis techniques has been developed over the years. This trend has been sharply rising recently and two new techniques have been widely used all over Europe and America. One of the techniques, which is called "Analysis of Flow Movement Technique' can be tought in a sequence. According to this technique, any of specific tennis skills can be tought considering the importance of chronological order. It has been pointed out some parts of tennis skills are more important than other parts. Today "The Analysis of Technique Flow Movement is widely used in North America, and Canada. Another technique, which is called Movements of Functional Analysis Technique, has been developed by Prof. Ulrich Göhner of Tubingen University of Germany, This technique is also widely used in Germany. The purpose of this study was to investigate these two techniques. Fifty-one subjects, were randomly selected from 350 of the students, derived from age between 17 and 23, who were students at Karadeniz Technical University in 1998 participated in this study. The students were divided into three equal groups (17 subjects in each group) and while one group were trained to strike forehand, backhand, and service skills by using movements of functional analysis method, the other group were trained to perform same skills by using analysis of flow movement method for eighteen weeks (four days a week and 1,5 hours a day). The control group were tested with these skills in pre and post tests and this group were not allowed to train these skills in training period. The results (Anova repeated measures) showed that Movements of Functional Analysis method is more effective than analysis of flow movement method.
