İntravezikal borik asit uygulamasının mesane tümörü üzerine etkisi

Objective: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of intravesical boric acid (BA) administration on bladder cancer macroscopically and microscopically after the development of bladder cancer with intravesical carcinogen instillation in experimental animals. Material and Method: 30 mature Wistar albino female rats weighing between 250-300 g were evaluated. During adaptation and experimentation, rats were housed at 22 ± 20C room temperature, in rooms with 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark, with food and water add-libitum. The subjects consisted of 6 rats sham, control and 3 experimental groups. After 5 doses of intravesical N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) administration to all groups, nothing was added to the sham group from the 14th week. Intravesical isotonic acid was administered to the control group, and to the experimental groups in 6 doses of 65, 100, 154 mg/kg intravesical boric acid. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between Sham, Control, Experimental 1, Experimental 2 and Experimental 3 groups in terms of the degree of hyperplasia (p=0.343). There was no statistically significant difference between Sham, Control, Experimental 1, Experimental 2 and Experimental 3 groups in terms of carcinoma in situ (CIS) grades (p=0.077). A statistically significant difference was found between the groups in terms of percentages of normal areas on microscopy (p=0.002). Conclusion: In our study, we think that intravesical BA may be beneficial in the treatment of NMIBC, as we found positive findings in the histopathological examinations performed after intravesical BA application in terms of CIS rate, the degree of hyperplasia, and the percentage of normal areas on microscopy.
