Abstract (EN)
Tunceli, strategically located in the east of Anatolia and rich in natural resources, has been a point of interaction for many civilizations throughout history. This region, notable for its historical diversity and cultural heritage, offers significant insights into the prehistoric and ancient history, particularly through archaeological excavations at Tozkoparan Höyük. This thesis is based on the data obtained from the rescue excavations at Tozkoparan Höyük and examines the historical processes and cultural dynamics of Tunceli. Excavations conducted in 2021 and 2022 have uncovered monumental structures and architectural remains dating back to the Iron Age and Late Chalcolithic Period. These findings document the region's strategic position on ancient trade routes and interactions with surrounding cultures. The ceramic artifacts and architectural structures unearthed during these excavations illuminate Tunceli's socio-economic structure and cultural diversity. Within the scope of this thesis, a radiocarbon (C-14) age analysis was conducted on a skeleton found in the mound as part of a scientific research project. This analysis is of great significance for the archaeology of Tunceli, marking the first laboratory-based absolute dating of the Chalcolithic Age. The results of this age analysis serve as an important reference for future archaeological scientific studies aimed at better understanding the ancient history of Tunceli and Eastern Anatolia in general. In conclusion, the excavations at Tozkoparan Höyük provide a new perspective on the historical understanding of Tunceli and contribute to the development of strategies for preserving and promoting the region's cultural heritage. These efforts will guide future archaeological research and enhance our comprehension of the region's rich history.
