Investigation of the planned route of the southern highway between Darıca (Akçaabat) - Yalı mahallesi (Trabzon) in terms of engineering geology

Investigation of The Planned Route of The Southern Highway Between Danca (Akçaabat) - Yah Mahallesi (Trabzon) In Terms of Engineering Geology Engineering properties of the rock units exposed at the planned route of the Trabzon southern highway between Danca (Akçaabat) and Yah Mahallesi (Trabzon) were determined by field and laboratory studies. For this purpose, a general geologic map of 40 km2 area including the planned bypass route on Trabzon F43-d4, G43-al and G43-a2 sheets were propered. Four different geologic units were subsequently identified from oldest to yungest as andesite-basalt and their pyroclastics interbedded with limestone and marl of Upper Cretaceous age, andesite-basalt and their pyroclastics interbedded with marl and limestone of Eocene age and terraces and alluviums of Quternary age. An engineering geologic map of 1/10.000 scale was prepared on the basis of the lithologic units and their weathering and five areas were outlined. These areas consist of moderatly weathered agglomerates (1st area), weakly weathered agglomerates (2nd area), weakly weathered basalt (3rd area) moderatly weathered tuff (4* area) and weathered breccia (5th area). The engineering and physico-mechanic properties of the rock units in each area were determined by field measurements and laboratory tests. Besides, geomechanic classification of the rock bodies was carried out and the rock bodies were examined in terms of slope stabilities and their us as foundation and tunnel rock.
