Investigating relationship between posttraumatic growth, core belief distruption and psychological resilience

Growth after traumatic experiences, distruption in the assumptive world in the aftermath of trauma and psychological resilience concepts are contemporary concepts discussed in the literature. Beside a better understanding of the theoretical frameworks of these concepts, the main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between posttraumatic growth, distruption of core beliefs and psychological resilience. In addition to this, it is aimed to investigate the multiple predictors of posttraumatic growth and gender diffirences in postraumatic growth, distruption of core beliefs and psychological resilience. Participants of the study consisted of 334 persons (185 women and 149 men) from various districts in Diyarbakır. In line with the aims of the study, Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, Core Belief Inventory and Resilience Scale for Adults were applied with a demographic form. The results showed that high levels of posttraumatic growth were associated with the highest core belief distruption and psychological resilience scores. The results of the regression analysis revealed that the two factors of core beliefs (about the self and about the others), structured style, personal competence and age have the power to predict posttraumatic growth in the aftermath of traumatic experiences, but social competence, family cohesion, social sources and traumatic events persons faced seem to have no significant relationship with posttraumatic growth. Also the findings of this study indicate significant differences between males and females in terms of posttraumatic growth. Psychological resilience level was found to have difference in favour of females only in structered style and social resources. Findings also indicate no gender diffirences in core belief distruption level.
