Abstract (EN)

Gothic literature born in the West, along with the West oriented literature improving after the Tanzimat era, has joined our literary life. Djinn and Fairy tales, legends, memorates are the narratives that took place in Turkish Folk Culture. That's why the first products of Turkish horror literature have been called "crone tales" and haven't been valued and respected enough. The introduction of the first products of the horror literature to our literature, as in the other literary genres has occurred through translations and adaptations from Western literature. In later times, even though original products have appeared; horror atmosphere, chosen places, horror creatures and heroes have been created inspired from the West. The localization in the Turkish horror literature and the use of local horror elements have happened after 2000s. The tales and novels written have taken place in Anatolia and horror creatures such as djinns, fairies, giants, cauchemars have been used in them. Along with these creatures, it presents a wide range of mythological creatures of Eastern and Western cultures and creatures in the abrahamic religions and the creatures that generated from the writer's imagination. Our study consists of two sections. In the first topic of the first section, the appearance of the horror literature and its examples in the world literature were explained. In the second topic, its development before and after two thousand was told. In the second section of the study, the horror creatures which exist in the Turkish horror stories were classified according to their characteristics. The type of creatures were organized from the most to the least one. These creatures which are in the topics were put in order alphabetically. The studies that were carried out about Turkish horror literature previously focused on the writers and their works. The time before the year two thousand was chosen as the period. The studies of the horror creatures were about analysis and classification in the field of folklore. Our study will bring about new ideas to our field in terms of studying the horror literature after the year two thousand and horror creatures in the works of this genre. This will be an example for the new studies that will be carried out. In this study, twenty two story books which were published between the years 2000 and 2020, and the horror creatures in these stories were studied on. Common properties of the creatures in the works were determined by means of traditional narration and a comparison was made between these traditional properties and the new properties they gained through fiction.
