The richness of proverbs, idioms and formulaic words in stories as reading materials in Turkish courses: An example of Selim İleri̇'s İlkgençlik Çağına Öyküler

According to the 2019 Turkish Lesson Curriculum, one of the compulsory texts for Turkish lessons is stories. This study is a study that aims to reveal the vocabulary of the stories in Turkish Lesson books. One of the ways to transfer vocabulary to future generations is through literary works. Story books are among the most important works in which this transfer will be made. In this study, the story selection series called İlkgençlik Çağına Öyküler by Selim İleri, one of the writers who skillfully used the vocabulary of Turkish in the field of stories, was examined. The document analysis method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The aim of the study is to reveal the richness of proverbs, idioms and formulaic expressions, which are among the vocabulary elements in the stories in the selection. In this regard, the proverbs, idioms and formulaic expressions in the stories were identified. In the study, information was given about children's literature and the most preferred story genre among children's literature products. Proverbs, idioms and formulaic vocabulary, which form the basis of the study, are discussed in detail. Additionally, information about Selim İleri's life and literary personality is given. At theend of thestudy, some suggestions were made to improve students' vocabulary.
