An examination of Peyami Safa and Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe's works in the context of critical reading based on the views of Turkish language teachers

The aim of this study is to examine the works of Peyami Safa and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in the context of critical reading, based on the perspectives of Turkish language teachers. Emphasizing the crucial role of critical reading skills in enabling individuals to question, analyze, evaluate, and interpret what they read, this research investigates in detail the methods teachers use to help students acquire these skills, the types of texts they prefer, and the challenges they face. Using interviews and questionnaire techniques as data collection tools, the study analyzes teachers' perceptions and experiences related to critical reading. The contribution of the works of Peyami Safa and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to the development of students' critical reading skills is discussed; their linguistic, thematic, philosophical, and artistic aspects are examined, along with how these texts are used in teaching practices. The findings indicate the need to increase teachers' awareness of critical reading, develop more effective teaching methods, and diversify the materials used to foster this skill. The study highlights the role of Peyami Safa's and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's works in fostering critical reading abilities, emphasizing how these texts contribute to the development of conscious and inquisitive individuals. In this respect, the study aims to shed light on pedagogical approaches that enhance the quality of critical reading education by emphasizing the educational power of literature.
