The effect of authentic learning on the listening ability for teaching Turkish language to foreign people

This study aims to research the effect of the authentic learning on the listening skill to teach learners Turkish language as a foreign language. For this purpose, it is used pre-test and posttest, single group weak, experimental design about data collection, data analysis control and interpretation of hypotheses. This study has been applied twenty-two pupils who their level is B2 in Turkish Language Learning Centre of a foundation university in İstanbul. In this study, listening exercises that prepared with the principles of the authentic learning has been applied to sample group during eight weeks. Pre-test and post-test have been done before and after the application. SPSS package program has been used in the analysis of the quantitative data obtained in the research. It is determined normality of distribution as using Shapiro-Wilk Test and parametric tests have been used in the study considering the skewness and kurtosis values of the distribution. As a result of statistical analysis on the data obtained quantitatively in the research, it has been observed that students' listening comprehension skill make a significant difference in pre-test and post-test results. In addition, pupils in the sample group have been examined according to different variables. These variables have significant differences according to how long the pupils stay in Turkey but gender, age, country, mother tongue, the number of foreign languages, the sources used and the most difficult language skills have been examined and no significant difference has been found
