Examination of the i̇mportance of agriculture and financial support in Turkey and European Uunion

The agricultural sector serves issues such as the provision of essential foodstuffs for the humankind, community health, socio-economic development and adequate and balanced nutrition. The agriculture sector has strategic importance for both developed and developing countries. For this reason, the agriculture sector has important tasks in the economic and social development of countries from past to present and is expected continue undertake these tasks in the future. Agricultural support is important for every country and group of countries. Agricultural supports, which varies according to economic conditions, development levels and interests of countries, contribute to issues such as competitiveness, efficiency in production, efficiency in applied agricultural policy, and living standards of farmers. The European Union has been carrying out agricultural studies for many years with the consciousness of importance of agriculture. When Turkey's share of the agricultural sector in economy and employment is taken into consideration, the importance of agricultural supports is clearly understood for Turkey. The agricultural supports that have been applied in various forms in Turkey from past to present, it is current issue in the EU accession process. From this point of view, this thesis aims to examine the support policies in Turkey and the European Union and evaluate the financial support for the agricultural sector in Turkey by comparing the support policies in Turkey and the EU.
