Comparative analysis of Turkish teaching programs in terms of texts and activities in Turkish coursebooks used by the 7th graders in Turkey and Azerbaijan

This study aims at analyzing texts and activities in course books taught in 7th Grades in terms of Turkish and Azerbaijani Turkish in accordance with the Turkish Language Teaching Program and Azerbaijani Turkish Teaching Program conducted in 2019-2020 academic year both in Turkey and Azerbaijan. This study prepared by using qualitative research method and document analysis method is applied. By using document analysis, relevant data were collected from Turkish teaching programs and 7th grade Turkish textbooks of both countries. A horizontal approach, one of the comparative education approaches, was used in the phase of comparing the curricula. The document analysis principles have been applied while analyzing the data obtained in the findings as part of the research. This study comprises of three parts; in the first part, 7th grade Turkish curricula used in the 2019-2020 academic year in Turkey and Azerbaijan were compared. In the second part, the types of texts in the 7th grade Turkish course books studied in the 2019-2020 academic year in both countries are analyzed comparatively. In the third part of the study, the distribution of the activities in the textbook were examined and compared according to the texts and learning areas such as listening/ watching, speaking, reading, writing.
