The research of relationship between the communication skill levels of hockey referees in Turkey and the styles of coping with stress

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between the communication skill levels of hockey referees in Turkey and the style of coping with stress of them. The population of this study constitutes 95 hockey referees in total, 26 females and 69 males working actively in Turkey as of 2018. All population has been reached. In collecting survey datas, pesonal information form prepared by researcher and consultant, and "the scale of the style of coping with stress" improved by Folkman and Lazarus in 1995 4 likert type with 30 point translated by Şahin and his friends, and "communication skills scale" 5 likert type with 25 point, improved by Korkut in 1992 have been used. SPSS 20 Statistic package has been used for analyzing data. According to the research findings, meaningful discrepancy between communication skill levels and demographic variables is not seen. Whereas significant discrepancy between levels of coping with stress and gender, marital status, economical condition, reason for refeeree is not seen; meaningful discrepancy is occured according to variables of age, educational background, age of referee and exercise situation. According relationship between communication skills and sub-dimensions of the style of coping with stress, meaningful relationship is seen in sub-dimensions of self confident approach, optimistic approach and desperate approach. Briefly, it has been concluded that the style of coping with stress in Turkey is affected positively as communication skill levels of hockey referees increase.
