Efficiency measurement of deposit banks in Turkey and evaluation of their performances with multi criteria decision making methods

Having a certain position on the financial markets, banks are very important for the economies of countries to carry out their activities efficiently and profitable. In this study, effectiveness and performance of deposit banks in Turkey were evaluated. In order to determine the efficiency levels of the banks, Data Envelopment analysis has been utilized. And also for measuring their performances of the banks, the ELECTRE and TOPSIS methods of Multi Criteria Decision Making Methods have been applied. In this study, it is aimed to reveal similar and different aspects of the results of the methods used in the analysis. 15 deposit banks were used in the study which are providing data, and have been operating in Turkey in the five-year period between the years 2012-2016, and domestic, foreign, or with public capital. In order to be used in the analysis of the study, common variables have been identified that can provide an accurate comparison of the results of the three analytical methods. Six variables including capital adequacy, balance sheet structure, asset quality, liquidity profitability ratios that can represent the general conditions of banks were formed. As a result of the study, it is clear that in the performed analyzes, the banks have reached to the effective activity in general, and annually the performances of many different banks are good. A non-parametric linear programming based activity measurement method VZA and sequential decision methods of MCDM, ELECTRE and TOPSIS have been used together and as a conclusion the methods do not give similar results except the year 2015 in the related years.
