Abstract (EN)
The majority of world energy resources utilised today, is derived from fossil based resources and the world`s energy needs are rapidly growing every year. The fossil fuel reserves to meet with this demand, are alarmingly shrinking.Due to fact that nearly half of the energy is used in buildings and because of environmental issues, including gradual depletion of energy resources and energy optimisation needs, led to further study on utilization of renewable energy resources, especially in construction sector have become evident. The main objective of this study is to identify the principles of architectural design aiming at optimization of energy usege by energy efficient buildings in construction sector. In this study, the climatic differences in Turkey are evaluated within the framework of four macro climate regions and reaserch is based on this factor. In the context of the aforementioned climatic regions, this dissertation study aims at identifying the criteria for designing energy efficient buildings with optimisation, in accordance with the analysis of the macroclimatic and microclimatic conditions, in order to minimize energy usege in buildings. The thesis consists of four main parts. In the first part, the definition of the problem, the objective, scope and methods of the research were examined. The second part addresses importance and development process of energy resources with an emphises on renewable energy sources. In this regard, the potential for renewable energy was examined and linked to construction sector. The importance of efficient energy usege in architecture and its necessity in terms of sustainability are discussed. The active and passive systems were addressed. In the third part, the macroclimatic and microclimatic determinants of energy-efficient building design were identified. How these determinants should guide building design were examined, and advice for energy efficient building design aiming at optimization of climatic data is provided. In the fourth part, in the light of the data obtained in the third part, a functional building design table that could be integrated into buildings under the responsibility of architects and engineers, was created. In accordance with the method of the study and the objective and scope of the research, a literature review was carried out by investigating the relevant publications and internet resources.Key Words: Renewable energy resources, Sustainable architecture, Passive system, Energy-efficient building design
