A research on the concepts related to environmental problems in development plans in Turkey

Today, climate changes, changes in natural vegetation, unhealthy urbanization, nuclear tests, the use of chemicals such as pesticides, artificial fertilizers and detergents cause environmental problems. In the international arena, many countries act together to solve environmental problems. Institutions have been established, laws have been enacted, plans have been made and many studies have been carried out in the academic field for the solution of environmental problems in Turkey. The 11 development plans formed since 1963 had been investigated the environmental problems comprehensively. Concepts, solution methods and activities for environmental problems are included in these development plans. It is important to know the concepts well and to make conceptual analyzes for the solution of future environmental problems. In this context, the main purpose of the study is to examine the concepts related to environmental problems in 11 development plans prepared in Turkey, comparatively with numerical data. In this research, the frequency of coexistence of words or phrases within the scope of content analysis is determined and information about the subjects in the research area is obtained. In the study, 137 sub-concepts were investigated under 10 main environmental problems. Maxqda program was used for numerical analysis of words and creating word cloud. Among the 10 main environmental problems, environmental pollution has the highest number with 14 repetitions. In addition, the word environment is the most repeated with 1024 times among 137 sub-concepts. In the following years, sustainable environment, liveable cities, urbanization and economy concepts can be researched as well as the concepts of environmental problems in development plans in Turkey. Also, making concept comparisons in plans made by countries, public and private sectors will be useful in terms of contributing to the literature.
