Abstract (EN)
Middle-East policy shaped by Adnan Menderes after Democrat Party came in power on Turkey and by Gamal Abdul Nasser after the Free Officers Movement in Egypt created a negative atmosphere in the relations of these two countries. Under the Democrat Party power, Turket-Egypt relations did not measure up. Egypt's leader position in Middle-East and Turkey's demand to be active in the region endamaged the relations of Turkey and Egypt. It also damaged the Middle-East policy of Democrat Party. Turkey-Egypt longlasting relations became distant due to Turkey's first initiative and its western-oriented policy. In line with Turkey's attempts, Baghdad Pact suggested by England was signed between Turkey and Iraq on 24 February 1955. England suggested the project to dominate Middle-East and Mediterranean Region for a longer time. English government claimed that the pact was signed in order to prevent Socialism to expand through Mediterranean and Middle-East region. Turkey played an important role to accomplish the alliance. Expected to join the pact, Egypt objected the project from the beginning and considered the pact as a new game of Imperialist powers. In view of Egypt's expansionist attitude in Middle-East, Turkey became a country cooperated with England and the Colonists. Turkey's reputation was demaged before other Arab countries.
