Abstract (EN)
This study was carried out to examine the researches on Scratch software published in Turkey thematically and methodologically and to reveal the general situation of these studies. Field articles were scanned for the studies to be included in the study..A total of 31 studies which are open to full access and which include 4 doctoral dissertations, 16 master thesis and 11 articles on Scratch software published in Turkey between 2009 and 2019 were added to the study. For the examination and encoding of the studies, the "Study Review Form"developed by Çiltaş 2017 was adapted with in the scope of there search and used as a data collection tool. The form includes the categories of study, the method of study, data collection tools, sample group, sample size and data analysis method categories. With the help of prepared study review form, the studies was examined and coded according to the thesis/article distribution, year, method, sample status, sample size, data collection tool and data analysis method and also trend analysis was done.Studies have been examined in terms of the topics and results addressed, and a descriptive analysis approach has been adopted for these sub-problems. The obtained data were analyzed using an Excel program and presented in the form of graphics and tables with percentage and frequency values. According to the findings which were obtained as a result of the research; the number of research on Scratch has increased and it was observed that the most studies were carried out in 2019. In terms of research methods, it was observed that 2 semi-experimental designs were used in 2017, 4 in 2018 and 4 in 2019, and the number of preference for semi-experimental designs gradually increased. In terms of data collection tools, likert type questionnaire/scale was used in 2 studies in 2017, 5 in 2018, and 7 studies in 2019; Likert-type attitude/perception/personality/ability/motivation tests in 2 studies in 2017, 1 in 2018, and 6 studies in 2019; multiple-choice achievement tests were used in 1 study in 2015, 3 in 2017, 4 in 2018, and 4 in 2019. T-test in 4 studies in 2017, 4 in 2018, and 6 studies in 2019; content analysis in 3 studies in 2015, 3 in 2016, 3 in 2018, and 2 in 2019; Non-Parametric Tests, which were not used before 2017, were used in 1 study in 2017, 1 in 2018, and 2 studies in 2019.Topics covered in the reviewed studies are problem solving, academic achievement, retention of information, programming, computational thinking, reading comprehension, technology use, class participation, program review, affective characteristics (motivation, attitude, self-efficacy) and critical thinking.Affective characteristics in 1 study in 2015, 1 in 2016, 2 in 2017, 4 in 2018, and 12in 2019;Academic achievement was discussed in 1 study in 2015, 1 in 2017, 3 studies in 2018, and 4 studies in 2019. When the results of the study are examined, in general,; It has been seen that Scratch has a positive effect on 21st century skills such as problem solving, algorithmic thinking, self-efficacy perception, and critical thinking.
