The development of the leftist thought in Turkey and reading of this development through cinema between years 1960-1980

It is inevitable that politics,which has impact on every corner of our life, takes part in the branches of the art. In this regard, political life after the 1960 Military Coup affected the Turkish Cinema,too. In the setting of relative freedom that emerged after May 27th, the first examples of political cinema had been released. Compared to the era of Democratic Party, the oppression and cencorship decreased, unionazition rate increased and leftist publications also increased. Then, as a result of the leftist ideology, the realist movies which were concerned about social messages and issues showed an increase. Until 1968, to fight through legal ways shone out in the leftist ideology. With the impact of political alternation that occured around the world, Left choosed the armed struggle from the begining of 1970s. As a result, the signs of that radicalisation were seen in Turkish Cinema. Notion of ''The Revolutionist Cinema'' which was affected heavily by Marksist Thought had been tried to be developed by the Leftist movie directors. This study has aim to understand the development of Leftist Thought in Turkey between the era mentioned above and to provide this development to be read through Turkish Cinema. Fundamental assumption of this study is to follow the political developments through the cinema. In this direction, literature search had been carried out in the first part to understand the leftist thought better. After the first part in which aims to reveal the historical development of leftist thought and ideological aims, Turkish Political Cinema had been reviewed in the second part. And in the third part of the study, the leftist thought in the examples of the political cinema had been tried to be revealed.
