The relationship between agricultural production and the emissions of greenhouse gases in turkiye

One of the global problems that cause the most concern for our future is climate change. One of the important sectors affected by climate change is the agricultural sector.Thecontinuity(sustainability) of the agricultural sector is important to meet the food needs of the world's growing population.On the other hand, the agricultural sector is a sector that causes greenhouse gas emissions and therefore policies need to be developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions originating from agricultural production. This study aims to investigate the relationship between agricultural value added, economic growth, renewable energy, urban population growth and greenhouse gas emissions in Turkiye applying the time series method for the period from 1990 to 2021.The ARLD bounds test approach is used for both short- term and long-term coefficient estimates. It is found that the effect of economic growth and agricultural value added on GHG emissions is statistically significant and positive in both the short and long terms.These results show that economic growth and agricultural value-added increase environmental pollution.Urban population growth rate and renewable energy are also found to have negative and statistically significant effects on greenhouse gas emissions. Agricultural sector policies need to be developed to reduce the impact of agricultural value added on global warming.It is important to reduce the amount of fossil fuel used in agriculture and increase the amount of renewable energy.While achieving the economic growth target, policies that do not ignore environmental pollution and ensure sustainability need to be implemented.To further reduce the impact of renewable energy on greenhouse gas emissions, Turkiye needs to accelerate its investments in renewable energy and strengthen incentive policies to increase investments.
