Social policies and institutional care of the elderly in Turkey: The case of Kırklareli Nursing Home

The aging process represents a period that individuals look at with hesitation throughout their lives. One of the reasons for this may be that it brings about physical, social and psychological losses. The losses that individuals experience with old age, withdrawal from social life, loneliness that comes with losing family members, loss of physical competence and need for care have gained an important place in the literature and have led to the production of policies to protect and prevent the current situation. The aim of the study is to explain the concept of old age and aging, to discuss family structures in societies around the world, the position of the elderly within the family and the adequacy of social policies for the elderly. For this reason, the study consists of three sections. In the first section, different societies and their changes in the historical process are explained under the title of family, elderly and social protection. In the second section, theories, theories and policies are explained in order to better understand the concepts. In the third and last section, field research, semi-structured interviews were conducted with elderly individuals living in the Nursing Home Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center affiliated to the Kırklareli Family and Social Services Directorate, and the daily lives of elderly individuals during the process they receive institutional services were taken as a basis, and in this direction, the effectiveness of institutional care services in practice was discussed.
