Abstract (EN)

In this study, some Sphagnum L. taxa distributed in Turkey were examined in detail for the first time in terms of morphological and molecular aspects. As a result of the examination of the samples in the herbarium of the KTU Biology Department, a total of 28 taxa belonging to the genus Sphagnum were determined. Of these, 4 (four) taxa; S. fallax (H.Klinggr.) H.Klinggr. var. isoviitae (Flatberg) Lönnell & Hassel, S. jensenii H. Lindb., S. pylaesii Brid. and S. recurvum P. Beauv. were detected as new records for Turkey. In addition, S. fimbriatum Wilson is new to Giresun province. Detailed descriptions were made, identification keys were created and distribution area information was increased of all Sphagnum taxa distributed in Turkey. With the molecular study, the base sequence of the chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) region (trnL-F) of a total of 16 Sphagnum taxa (15 different taxa) belonging to all subgenus of the Sphagnum genus found in Turkey was produced. Our phylogenetic analyzes (BI, ML, MP) of the trnL-F region produced topologically identical trees. As a result of the phylogenetic analysis, it was revealed that the trnL-F region is useful to distinguish the subgenera belonging to the genus Sphagnum, and the subgenera Subsecunda, Rigida, Sphagnum and Acutifolia (except Cuspidata subgenus) are monophyletic.
