Modelling historical buildings using 3D GIS

Abstract (EN)

One of the most important purposes of 3D GIS is to provide 2D query and analyses using 3D modelling of real land surface. In this context, data modellings have been developed with an aim to be used in representation of 3D enviroment since 90's. Especially after mid 2000s 3D GIS studies have risen up. Today simulation, navigation and geolocation operations for multistorey buildings can be done by 3D GIS. While it's possible to associate graphical data with attribute data, it's not satisfactory enough to process attribute data on a database logic yet. That's why, integration of attribute data needed for query and analysis should be done while modelling graphic objects in 3D GIS. In this thesis, indoors and outdoors of historical buildings have been modelled with their attribute datas in 3D GIS media using Cityengine software. For this aim, a pilot area in which there are many historical buildings has been chosen for field work. 3D models have been created with the help of aerial photographs, base map and building surveys in the pilot area, and the spatial query capacity of these models has been examined. At the end of the study, it has been understood that 2D ArcGIS data can be integrated into 3D models as location and attribute, and indoor and outdoor spatial queries can be achieved.
