From the beginning of aviation history, the fire has been a serious problem for aircraft. The occurrence of smoke or fire during a flight is dangerous and may result in catastrophe unless effectively intervened by the aircraft crew. Fire detectors are required in the B, C and E type cargo compartments of aircraft according to FAA Part 25 and EASA CS-25 Aircraft Production and Certification Standards published by the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency. Today, only smoke detectors are on duty against a fire in a passenger aircraft. In the researches conducted, it was observed that dozens of aircraft changed their planned flights due to enormous number of false warnings given by these smoke detectors and as a result financial losses are inevitable. In this thesis, screen printing technique was used as gas sensor production technique. Titanium oxide and tin oxide were used as metal oxide in the produced samples. The produced samples were examined under the specified gases, and obtained reaction times were observed within the range of 50 to 65 seconds. This time interval is to meet the requirement for a fire detector which has to react within 60 seconds from the start of the fire which can fit to be used in commercial aircraft. Then it is concluded that produced detectors can be used simultaneously with the smoke detectors that are still in use at today's passenger aircrafts to achieve more reliability and less reaction time.
