Abstract (EN)
In this study, psycho-social variables predicting internet addiction in university students were analyzed. The study which was prepared on internet environment was sent to 500 university students in Istanbul randomly chosen and 399 of them took part in the study. Viewing the results of the study, it was seen that 83,71% of the participants had been using internet for 5 and more years internet. Looking into frequency of internet usage, it was found that 31,83% of the participants had used internet for 5 or more hours a day and that 72,18% of them used it for 7 days a week. Viewing the goals of usage, it was seen that 41,60% of the participants used internet for homework occasionally, 37,34% used often it for research, 30,08% often used it for watching a film, 35,09% never used it for games, 40,10% always used it for music and 44,61% always used it for social communication (mail, MSN, etc.). Furthermore, it was found that there was a significant difference between normal distribution and distributions of family support, friend support, special person support, being sub-levels of internet addiction level and perceived social support level, and that variables were not normally distributed. As a result of analysis, it was found that there was not a significant difference between gender and family support level, friend support level, special person support level, perceived social support level and internet addiction level.
