Analysis of the effects of sports participation on aggressive behaviour among University students

The aim of this study is to study if there are effects of sports participation on aggressive behaviour or not. The scope of the research is constituted by students of Bilecik University for the 2010-2011 academic year. Sample of the study is 417 subjects of 181 sports doer and 236 non-sports doer which were chosen randomly. "Aggressiveness Inventory" (Kiper 1984) which was developed by İpek İlter (Kiper) was used as data collection tool and personal information form which was also developed by the researcher.Surveys conducted to the subjects to find answers to the research question were computerized via SPSS 16.0. Demographic information and the level of participation to sports facilities of the subjects were designated through frequency distribution .Graphical displays were done via Excel programme. Relability of Aggressiveness Inventory and its subdimensions was obtained with Cronbach's alfa internal coefficient of consistence and test of normality for the points gained from the scale/sub-dimension was done with Kolmogorov-Smirnov Z. Differences among the means as the case may be the variable examined were tested via sample t test and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA). At the end of our study, the children?s general aggressions differ according to their gender and participation in sports. Furthermore, according to the results, it is found that general aggression does not differ according to age, mother and father?s education and family?s monthly income.
