Comparison of different item formats in determining the levels of reading understanding of university students

In this study; It was aimed to compare the measurements of university students reading comprehension levels with different item formats.For this purpose, the scores obtained using open-ended,multiple choice and text marking item formats were compared.The model of the research was determined as relational screening model,and the sampling method was determined as convenient sampling.The study group of the research; 2021-2022 Fall Term consists of 224 students studying at different departments of Van Yüzüncü Yıl and Hasan Kalyoncu universities. In the developed 45-item measurement tool; As a result of expert opinions and item analysis,a 26-item final test was decided.The obtained data were analyzed using the SPPS 26 package program.Content and construct validity analyzes for the validity analysis of the test in the analysis of data;KR-21, Cronbach's Alpha,item difficulty and distinctiveness indices were used for reliability analysis. In the study,the scores obtained from the items prepared by considering the taxonomy levels were compared descriptively.Different results emerged from each level of taxonomy. From the items requiring high-level skills, the students achieved higher results than the text marking item format.The highest average in the Reading Comprehension Test was obtained from the text markup item format.
