A study on university city criteria: The example Eskişehir

Certain criteria are needed to characterize a settlement. These criteria may vary according to time and place. For example, the definition of the city has changed many times. Population and economic activities are the most widely used criteria for defining settlements. The fact that Eskişehir has three state universities and the character of the university city which has been known for many years has been characterized by this study. In this study, the criteria that should be used to define a university city were determined. The criteria of the university city were evaluated under two headings by evaluating the previous studies, the data obtained and the findings of the survey. These are Human Factors and Spatial Indicators. Human Factors are evaluated under five subheadings as population, transportation, security, procurement of goods and services, academic and cultural activities. In spatial indicators, the enterprises on University Street were analyzed. Key Words: City, Criteria, Student, University City
