The examination of relationship among problem solving skills and self-essicacy, locus of control, self-esteem, test anxiety, perfectionizm in giffed children

03. Summary The aim of the study is to investigate a predictive model for test anxiety on gifted high school students. For this purpose the relationship between test anxiety and perfectionism were mainly searched, and self-esteem, locus of control, self-efficacy, and problem solving skills were added to the model as well, for the understanding of test taking behaviors of gifted students. The participants of the study are from Erzincan, Kayseri, Ordu, Samsun, Trabzon and Zonguldak Science Lyces, and the total student participated in the study were 489, 162 females and 327 males with mean age of 17.01. Correlational and causal-comparative models were used in this study, with mean dependent measure of test anxiety and independent measures of perfectionism, self-esteem, locus of control, self-efficacy, and problem solving skills, gender and age. The instruments used in the study were Test Anxiety Inventory, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Locus of Control, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Self -Efficacy Scale, and Problem Solving Skills Inventory. Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale has been adapted and validated as a part of the study. Data analysis of the study was conducted with Multiple Hierarchic Regression Analysis, ANOVA, t-test, and correlation, and all Hypotheses were tested at a=.05 significance level. Results of the study revealed significant relationship between test anxiety and perfectionism. In the regression model, rushing and avoidant type of problem solving, external locus of control, lower level of self-efficacy, and preoccupation with mistakes, and doubtfulness an behaviors type perfectionism were found to have predictive value for emotionality type of test anxiety. For the worry aspect of the test anxiety, rushing, self- confident, planned, lower self-esteem, and self-efficacy, external locus of control and preoccupation with mistakes, parental criticism, and personal standards, type of perfectionism found to be the significant predictors.
