Investigation of career psychological counseling and guidance services applied to high school students

The aim of this research is to examine the career psychological counseling and guidance services applied to gifted students in depth. For this purpose, it is an inductive generalization that was created as a school psychological science (phenomenology) study as a research method, working in theories where gifted students are educated, aiming at an inductive generalization by taking individual experiences, which is a qualitative research design. Interview forms were prepared in order to interview with expert opinion consultants in this subject area of the research. Five of the ten psychological counselors who participated in the interview are the counselors responsible for the information that gifted students are registered and 'K'; Abbreviated as 'N' for five counselors working at other high school institutions. The data of the research were collected in June 2022 and July 2022. The data obtained as a result of the interviews with the participants were coded with the "MaxQDA-22" program using the content analysis method. As a result, career counseling and guidance services applied to gifted students were examined under four main themes as "work done", "problems encountered", "needs" and "recommendations". According to this review; In the findings of the applications, preference counseling, academic studies, counseling services, educational counseling, career counseling, coping with exam anxiety were determined as common codes. It was determined that the common codes of future anxiety, academic problems, lack of material and motivation were found in the findings related to the theme of the problems they encountered. In determining the career preferences of the students, the concern for the future has been intensely expressed. It has been stated that career psychological counseling and guidance works that students need according to their abilities and characteristics include employment, indirect learning/modelling, family-society support, career choice and application areas suitable for their abilities. The studies they recommend for a higher quality career counseling and guidance practices compared to the participating teachers; additional points/support, material/material support, employment, in-service training, application area, pdr norm and family support. Of these dimensions; It is seen that the needs for employment, family support, in-service training and pdr norms are higher.
