Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to determine the predictive strength of metacognitive awareness and self efficacy beliefs on life satisfaction among gifted students. In the study, differences in metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy beliefs and life satisfaction with regard to gender, grade level, perceived parental attitudes, and the case of attendance of Science and Art Center during primary education were investigated.The sample of study was consisted of 492 gifted high school students attended science high schools located in Ordu, Trabzon and Artvin in 2011-2012 academic year. A demographic data form prepared by the researcher, Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (Schraw ve Dennison, 1994), Self-Efficacy Scale (Sherer ve diğerleri, 1982) and Life Satisfaction Scale (Diener et al., 1985) was used to collect the data. Independent Samples t test, Mann Whitney-U Test, Kruskal Wallis Test, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient and path analysis were applied to analyze the data.In the study, significant relationships between metacognitive awareness, all subscales of metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy and life satisfaction were investigated. It was also determined there was significant relationship between self-efficacy and life satisfaction. In addition, the results of path analysis indicated that metacognitive awareness and self-efficacy were significant predictors of life satisfaction. Differences in metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy beliefs and life satisfaction with respect to the demographic variables were determined.The results acquired from the study were discussed in the light of relevant literature and some new directions were given to the further studies.
