The dyadic effect of satisfaction and harm perceived by self-sacrifice i̇n long-distance marital relationships on marital satisfaction

In this study, the relationship between the satisfaction of sacrifice and perceived harm in sacrifice and marital satisfaction of married couples are in long-distance relationship was examined as a dyadic. The convenience sampling method was used in the study. The criteria for participating in the study were determined, married couples who stayed away from their home at least three nights a week and had a spouse residing in another region and had been in long-distance relationships for at least 6 months were included in the sample. The sample of the study consisteds of 101 couples (n= 202 individuals) in the 21-49 age group. In the research, the effect of the self-sacrifice behavior of individuals in long-distance marriages on both their own marital satisfaction (actor effect) and their spouses' marital satisfaction (partner effect) was examined by conducting Actor Partner Interdependence Model. The Sacrifice Satisfaction Scale, Perceived Sacrifice Harmfulness Scale and the Marital Life Scale were used as data collection tools. SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs were used in the analysis of the data. According to the results of the research, the increase in the self-sacrifice satisfaction scores of the individuals increases the marital satisfaction of themselves (actor effect) and their partners (partner effect). On the other hand, the increase in the perceived harm in sacrifice scores of individuals reduces their (actor effect) and partners' marital satisfaction (partner effect). The findings of the study showed that there are significant actor and partner effects between partners satisfaction with sacrifice and perceived harm in sacrifice and marital satisfaction in long-distance marriages. The findings were discussed in the context of the relevant literature. In line with the results of the study, recommendations were made both for the researchers and practitioners.
