Teacher's views on teaching methods and techniques used in distance education (Mixed method research)

This study was carried out by using mixed method in order to get the opinions of teachers about the methods and techniques they use in distance education lessons. The quantitative study group of the research consists of 310 teachers among 1657 secondary school branch teachers working in Eyyübiye district of Şanlıurfa. The qualitative study group of the research consists of 12 branch teachers working in the same district. "The Methods and Techniques Preferred by Teachers in Distance Education Classes" and a semi-structured interview form were used to collect the data. Descriptive and content analysis were used in the analysis of qualitative data, descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of quantitative data, and (x̄), (f), (%) and range were used. As a result of the research, it has been seen that teachers mostly prefer question-answer and direct lecture methods in the distance education process. It has been observed that they prefer methods and techniques such as debate, role playing, and simulation less. It has been determined that the preferred methods and techniques vary according to the branch. There was no significant difference in the distribution according to professional seniority. It has been observed that teachers primarily pay attention to the duration of the lesson and the appropriateness of the learning outcomes in the selection of methods and techniques. Teacher's inability to control students' microphones has been reported as a negative effect of methods and techniques on classroom management. Most of the teachers found the course time insufficient. It has been understood that teachers have more difficulty in planning distance education lessons than in planning face-to-face lessons.
