Abstract (EN)

The need for vocational and technical education was needed with the birth of humanity. The first vocational and technical education started with the master-apprentice relationship and was able to meet the needs. In our country important developments were observed in vocational and technical education during the Reforms (Tanzimat) period and Second Constitutional Monarchy. Republican era is an era of innovation in every field at Turkey. New projects in various fields from education to fine arts have been offered to the public. One of them is named Men Art Institutes primarily opened in Ankara and following all over the country in order to develop the vocational and technical education in Turkey that the concept of republic aimed the industrialization and to train qualified technical staff needed in that period. This study examines Van Male Art Institute, which provides vocational and technical education in the Republic Period. In order to be more understandable in terms of Architecture, 12 men's art institutes built in the same period were also examined. With this examination, it was seen that vocational and technical education was based on penitentiary in the historical process, and the schools built in a certain time period of 1891-1940 were also examined from an architectural perspective.
