Abstract (EN)
Laboratories as like as most businesses uses multi-purpose, problem-solving and web-based systems to facilitate their daily works. Laboratory software systems in Turkey can often solve the needs of private laboratories. However there is also demand for laboratory information management system usage in the academic field. In this thesis, it is aimed to develop a web-based Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to meet the needs of laboratories which conducting experimental studies and academic research. System was developed using open source code and it provides management of experiment follow-up, inventory stocks, communication of users and research processes. While simplifiying these processes it also facilitates the archiving, editing of data, and enables the reporting of research results over the internet. LBYS, which works exclusively for academic field in our country, has been developed by obeying the agile software development principles in collaboration with Istanbul University Department of Informatics and Istanbul University Faculty of Science Molecular Biology and Genetic Diagnosis Laboratory. It is expected that the developed web-based system, will reduce the daily problems, eliminate data losses, improve human interaction, and reduce energy consumption and costs for laboratory users in basic sciences. As a result; This system developed in modular structure within the scope of thesis and it is possible to integrate by other research laboratories according to their demand.
