Teachers' and supervisiors' views on the problems foreign language teachers face with during the lesson inspection

The purpose of this study is to determine the teacher and supervisiors' views on the problems that foreign language teachers working at primary and secondary schools face with during the lesson inspection. Design of the study is a relational survey. The population consists of supervisors working in Antalya province and foreign language teachers working at (public and private) primary and secondary schools in central districts of Antalya. In 2013- 2014 academic year, 361 foreign language teachers from five central districts of Antalya and 53 supervisors were included in the study. As the data collection instrument, a questionnaire was used in this study. The questionnaire was prepared in two kinds which one is for teachers and the other is for supervisiors and except for demographic questions, the other parts and items are the same. There are demographic questions in the first part and fifty items in the second part of the questionnaire. Items of four parts as pre-inspection, while-inspection, after-inspection and inspection in general. Data was analyzed in SPSS 20.0 program and percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation, t-test and one-way ANOVA for independent samples and in case the assumptions of parametric tests were not satisfied, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis-H tests were used to analyze the data. In the results of the study, meaningul differences occured between supervisiors and foreign language teachers in every parts of the questionaire. According to the perceptions of foreign language teachers, the mostly faced problems are seen in 'Inspection in general' part whereas in 'Pre-inspection' part according to the supervisiors. As a result of analysis of the data of the demographic characteristics of foreign language teachers, related to the problems faced with in the lesson inspection process, significant differences were found only in 'Inspection in general'sub-section according to the teacher seniority variable and in all other sections except from 'While-inspection (in terms of teacher )'sub-section in gender variable. A significant difference was found in all other sections except from 'While-inspection (in terms of supervisor)'sub-section according to the age variable, and except from 'Pre-inspection'sub-section in graduation variable. While significant difference was found in only 'While-inspection (in terms of teacher)' and 'Inspection in general' sub-section according to the results of the analysis carried out on the pedagogical training variables, according to the number of inspection variables, significant difference was found in each sub-section of the inspection questionnaire relating to the inspection problems. No differences were found in terms of the branch, supervisor seniority, recently graduated high level of education (graduation) and age as demographic variables of supervisiors.
