Research of the cameras of mobile phones in close range photogrammetry

The basic inputs of digital close range photogrammetry are digital images. Nowadays, digital images on close range digital photogrammetry works are directly obtained with digital cameras. The most commonly used types of cameras are DSLR (Digital single-lens reflex) cameras in this study field. But they are heavy and expensive, because of its lens and mirrors. Therefore, usage of these machines is limited. On the other hand, usage of mobile phones is common. Cameras of mobile phones have been developing dramatically due to technological evolution. Even, there are some mobile phones providing 41 MP camera geometric resolutions. In this study, it is aimed to research photogrammetric works using mobile phone cameras. For this purpose two different applications are carried out. At the first application, a test area of approximately 1x1 m. having 84 points with different 3D coordinates has prepared. Using this test area, comparisons are made between six different mobile phone cameras and two different compact photograph machines. In comparison, the parameters like accuracy, precision and image coordinate corrections were used. At the result of evaluation, it has been obtained of accuracies in micron precision, captured of pictures by using mobile phone cameras approximately height of 1 m. At the second application, 3D photogrammetric model simulated on the historical Sırcali Kumbet in Kayseri, using the camera of Samsung S4 mobile phone, that gives the best result for all three comparison criterias. At the photogrammetric evaluation, it has been used 133 control points and 54 imagess those are taken convergently. At the evaluation of both of each application, it has been achieved that, modern mobile phone cameras can be used easily on photogrammetric applications.
