Examining the views of immigrants living in Yalova on immigration legislation in the context of social work

This research aims to determine the level of legal and social rights of foreigners within the scope of international and national migration legislation and the level of their benefit from these rights by examining international migration legislation in the context of social services. In addition, a large number of factors were examined by considering their benefit from social service rights and environmental, familial, social, economic and psychosocial conditions within the scope of the observation. The descriptive research model was used in the research conducted with qualitative methods. Within the scope of the research, interviews were conducted with a total of twenty interviewers, including eight female and eight male refugees residing in Yalova, two NGO representatives and two migration experts. The data of the research was accessed through a semi-structured interview form. The MAXQDA program was used to establish meaningful and consistent relationships between the data obtained from the interviews and was interpreted by dividing them into themes. As a result of the analysis, a main theme, three themes, fifteen sub-themes and sixteen codes were obtained. The main theme of "International Rights of Foreigners and Awareness of These Rights" consists of three themes: "Information Levels About Their Official International Statuses", "Access to Service Rights" and "Benefiting from Integration and Support Mechanisms". As a result of the research, it was determined that foreigners living in Turkey under different statuses (temporary protection, international protection applicant, conditional refugee, humanitarian residence, residence permit, work permit, etc.) have certain legal rights, but the vast majority of foreigners do not have sufficient knowledge about what these rights are and how to use them. It was understood that foreigners only focus on meeting their basic needs and are not willing to research and learn about their legal rights. It was also determined that those with a higher level of education and those active in associations and institutions know their rights better, and in general, the majority of foreigners are not aware of their status rights and cannot use these rights sufficiently. The situation of foreigners living in Yalova is similar. Despite the information provided by the Migration Administration, it is among the findings that they do not have sufficient information about the rights and services provided, and therefore do not benefit from these rights sufficiently. It has been determined that there are serious information deficiencies and implementation problems, especially in the areas of the right to work, social services and health services. Based on these findings, it can be said that the information activities carried out through the Migration Administration and associations are useful, but more comprehensive and continuous training is required.
