Abstract (EN)
Design is a process that directly affects all subsequent phases of construction projects. Constructability competences of the drawings made in this process becomes a key factor, especially in order to achieve the necessary conditions during the construction phase. Building information modeling is a rising trend in the construction industry, and it also contributes significantly to the development of constructability competences of designs. This study presents a suggestion using building information modeling as a tool for the early identification and prevention of constructability problems that might occur in the construction process of industrial plants. A completed power plant project was selected as a case study. After the identification of constructability problems that emerged during the construction process preventive solutions have been proposed using plant infrastructure and a heavy reinforcement equipment foundation models. Then, the alternative methods developed using building information modeling tools are compared with the methods used during construction process. It has been found that constructability reviewusing building information modelling tools has been performed quick and efficiently. Morover, it also improved constructability capabilities of the designs.
