Abstract (EN)
Determination of Parameters Which Affect Beach Nourishment Performance Various methods have been used in shore protection and littoral sediment trapping studies. Beach nourishment is one of the popular methods employed for shore protection and recreation. Before beginning the nourishment process, some issues related the nourishment, such as how, when, and where to nourish, should be addressed. Tn this study, the effect of bed slope, sediment median diameter, wave height and period and berm height on the ratio of remaining material, which is a parameter chosen to represent the beach nourishment performance, are investigated in a physical model. Dimensional and non-dimensional equations are obtained by regression analysis using experimental data. The study comprises of seven chapters and appendices. In the first chapter, a literature review is presented and a general background on nourishment methods and governing equations for determining the ratio of remaining material is given. In the second chapter, the details of the experimental setup and the experiments performed are given. Tn the third chapter, by using the data obtained from the physical model studies, regression analysis is performed and dimensional and non-dimensional equations are obtained. In the fourth chapter, relative errors resulting from the comparison of the results of the derived equations and the physical model are evaluated. In the fifth and sixth chapters, the conclusions of this study and recommendations for future research are provided, respectively. In the seventh chapter, references are given. In the appendices, relative errors, the figures of bed topography and the ratio of remaining material obtained from equations and model studies are presented. It was concluded that, the most important parameter that affects the ratio of remaining material is the bed slope. The other important parameters include the sand diameter, the wave height and the berm height. However, the effect of wave period is not significant. Since the correlation coefficients of the regression equations are quite large and the calculated relative errors are small, it was also concluded that, the resulting equations are reliable.KeyWords: Beach Nourishment Performance, Ratio of Remaining Material, Physical Model, Regression Analysis
