An examination of seventh-grade students' academic achievements in the social studies course's active citizenship learning area in terms of various variables

The purpose of this research is to determine the extent to which seventh-grade students acquire the subject and achievements of the active citizenship learning area in the social studies course according to various variables. The study group of this research, conducted according to the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, consists of 272 seventh-grade students from 8 secondary schools, including 4 district centers and 4 village schools affiliated with districts in Silvan district of Diyarbakır province during the 2021-2022 academic year. An academic achievement test, consisting of two parts, was applied to obtain the data. The data were evaluated using descriptive statistical methods, and as a result of the research, it was determined that students' academic achievements in the "Active Citizenship" learning area were slightly above the intermediate level ( =10,18; ss=4.33). Concerning the gender variable, it was found that female students were academically more successful than male students, and there was a significant difference in favor of female students. Students with higher maternal education levels had higher academic achievements than students with lower maternal education levels. There was a significant difference in favor of students whose fathers had a high school education level compared to students whose fathers were literate or illiterate. Students residing in the city center had higher academic achievements than those in villages, and there was a significant difference between them. Students in regular schools were academically more successful than students in imam hatip schools.
