Abstract (EN)

As screen technology and the internet evolve, video codecs should be improved to meet the requirements of video transfer. The use of AV1 codec, developed by AOM (Alliance for Open Media), which has recently come to the fore, is becoming widespread. Alternatively, ITU-T and ISO standard bodies are about to complete the development stages of the VVC (Versatile Video Coding) codec by making improvements to the HEVC (H.265) codec, which is already accepted by the codec community and widely used. Within the scope of this thesis, the configuration parameters of AV1, HEVC and VVC codecs are changed and comparisons are made both within themselves and against each other. Comparisons are made based on changing configuration parameters which are coding tree units (CTU), I-frame interval, and constant bit per second. For comparisons, 5 different characteristics CIF quality videos and a single 4K quality video are used. CIF quality videos are processed according to their temporal and spatial information, and the codecs are compared using these informations. PSNR, SSIM and BD-Rate measurement metrics are used while making comparisons.
