Abstract (EN)

Energy is one of the important indicators of economic development and social welfare. Energy has an important position in societies nowadays and it has been observed that energy consumption is increasing with the acceleration of country's economic growth. After oil shock there has been the problem of security of energy supply and searching for new, renewable, cheap and quality energy sources has launched. The potential of renewable energy sources become more of an issue with regard to the developing countries like Turkey. In this study, energy politics are stated and the reasons of preference of energy sources along with how they are formed are considered. The level of energy generation and consumption in the world is examined and the investments on solar energy are mentioned. Similarly, the energy situation and renewable energy sources of our country are examined. Turkey has the potentials of renewable energy such as wind, hydroelectric, solar, geothermal and biomass. Especially solar energy, which is utilised with a high level thanks to the location of our country, is mentioned in the study among renewable energy sources. Solar energy, which is the main subject in the study with respect to Turkey's renewable energy richness, is one of the important energy sources as it is both environment-friendly and easily found. Usage areas of solar energy are examined in details.
