The Divan of Yenişehirli İzzet concordance and functional dictionary

This study in which the Divan of Yenişehirli İzzet is studied is to create the concordance and functıonal dıctıonary of the Divan by considering the contextual uses of the words, concepts and noun phrases involved in the Divan. The TEBDİZ system was studied while the dictionary was being prepared. TEBDİZ standing for the Concordances and Functional Dictionary of Turkish Literature is the name of the project prepared with initiative of Gazi University in 2015. The project aims to prepare a contextual dictionary by evaluating words used in the works in Turkish Literature from beginning of the sixteenth century of the sixteenth century according to their contextual usage in texts. The concordance part of the dictionary includes the words, concepts and noun phrases with both their contexts and frequencies of occurrence. The functional dictionary part includes both basic meanings of the words, concepts and noun phrases and their contextual meanings. Firstly, the basic meanings and then, the contextual meanings were given while the dictionary was being created. The alphabetical order was based on during creation of the dictionary. Semantic richness of the words and the concept Yenişehirli İzzet used in his Divan and their usage peculiar to the poet were revealed through this study. The revealed data is expected to contribute to future studies on contextual dictionaries and about the Classical Turkish poetry and Ottoman culture.
