Analysis of cultural elements and values ​​in local animated films

Changes are occurring in many areas due to technological advancements. Cultural disciplines also make use of these advancements for data collection and analysis. Animated films, which have emerged as a result of technological advancements, are among the most important media tools that play a role in the transmission of culture today, due to the cultural elements and values they contain. From an early age, media can be decisive in the formation and development of children's value systems. Children who spend a significant portion of their time viewing various visual media content may be susceptible to certain influences. Every child develops in accordance with their cultural environment. Children who spend time with visual media content during their formative years can learn from what they watch. Research and analysis of accessible and reviewed resources within the scope of this study revealed that, while there are studies on values in animated films, no studies on the cultural elements and values of the two sequel animated films were found. The information and literature review obtained from examining the content of domestically produced animated films appear important, as they can provide resources for future research and studies in the field. This study aimed to determine how and for how long cultural elements and values are present in domestic animated films. For this purpose, segments were identified that included values such as cooperation and solidarity, hospitality, truthfulness and honesty, cleanliness, and conscience, as well as cultural elements such as food, clothing, and language. The data collection set for the study consisted of the animated films Rafadan Tayfa: Galaktik Tayfa and Rafadan Tayfa: Hayrimatör. The films were analyzed using the "Cultural Elements and Values Analysis Form," developed by the researcher through reviewing the relevant literature and examining the data collection tools of similar studies conducted in different fields. The obtained data were entered into the form. In the study, cultural elements were coded as food, language, and clothing, and values as cooperation and solidarity, hospitality, truthfulness and honesty, cleanliness, and conscience. Content analysis was used in the analysis and interpretation of the data obtained within the scope of the study. The analyses of Rafadan Tayfa: Galaktik Tayfa and Rafadan Tayfa: Hayrimatör indicate that the films embody codes of Turkish culture and are crucial in conveying values.
