Green it awareness: A sample web application

In the modern era, digitalization is a rapid transformation reshaping the lifestyles of individuals, organizations, and societies. The increasing use of information technologies has facilitated access to information, optimized business processes, and provided innovative solutions, but also had significant impacts in economic, social, and environmental domains. Rising energy consumption, the growing volume of electronic waste, and carbon emissions are among the most prominent negative environmental effects of information technologies. Green computing refers to an environmentally friendly approach covering the entire lifecycle of information technologies, from production and usage to recycling. Green computing awareness is crucial in reducing the environmental impact of information technologies and contributing to sustainability goals. However, despite the growing use of information technologies, the level of awareness regarding green computing among companies remains insufficient. This study aims to raise companies' awareness of green computing and contribute to environmental sustainability by designing a website. The website was developed using web design and development languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, and PHP. It provides information on key concepts of green computing, sustainable technologies, e-waste management, carbon footprint reduction, and ecological labels, helping users transition to environmentally friendly technologies and raise awareness of green computing. During the research process, feedback from four experts was obtained to improve the website's effectiveness and content presentation. Revisions based on expert feedback made the site more comprehensible and functional. Future work is expected to further highlight the societal, environmental, and economic contributions of green computing and raise awareness in this field.
